In its first game of the 2025 season, the Tulane Green Wave honored the 2005 team that showed perseverance in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, wearing green helmets with no decals en route to a 23-3 victory over Northwestern.
Now, the program is giving fans the chance to commemorate the anniversary of the storm's landfall.
On Wednesday, Tulane announced that 2005 retro jerseys are now available in the team's NIL store.
The 2005 team was forced to play the entire season on the road, with designated "home" games being played at various stadiums across Louisiana and in Mobile, Al.
Despite massive setbacks, the Green Wave finished 2-9 on the year with over SMU and Southeastern Louisiana.
The white jerseys feature a throwback Green Wave logo and 2005 replica accents, and they commemorate the 20th anniversary of Katrina and the uniform that the team wore directly following the storm.
The Tulane NIL Store also shared that a portion of proceeds from jersey sales will go to the American Red Cross of Louisiana.
The announcement comes just days after Northwestern reportedly denied Tulane's request to wear commemorative white uniforms in its season-opening game, which fell just one day after the anniversary of the storm's landfall.
"When you disrespect the city of New Orleans, you're going to run into it," Green Wave Head Coach Jon Sumrall said in a press conference following the matchup.
ESPN has since reported that Northwestern head coach David Braun reached out to Sumrall on Saturday night, and the pair were able to talk Sunday.
The Wildcats reportedly received Tulane's request to make a uniform change in mid-August, but the staff had already prepared white uniforms to wear on the road at Yulman Stadium by that time.
"Certainly not a gesture of disrespect, but the timing of the request did impact our ability to honor the request," Braun said in Monday's Northwestern press conference.
Braun went on to add that helped the community after the storm. He and teammates at Winona State traveled to New Orleans in May 2006 to help rebuild homes in the city.
"I don't pretend to understand what the city of New Orleans has been through, but what I can tell you is this university and myself have a tremendous amount of respect for the impact that Hurricane Katrina had on New Orleans and that region," Braun said.
There is no word yet on if Tulane hopes to wear the commemorative white uniforms at any other point this season.
