Trabzonspor president publicly declares a strong desire for Manchester United's former £43m signing, André Onana, to remain, citing his stellar performances.
Andre Onana departed Manchester United in the summer, leaving for Turkish side Trabzonspor, where he has thrived finding much needed confidence after a tumultuous time in Manchester in his two seasons where he made 102 appearances, with the one this season being in United's embarrassment against Grimsby in the league cup.
Onana had to go out on loan to search for gametime after he was dropped at the start of this season for Altay Bayindir, then Senne Lammens came in from Royal Antwerp where he has flourished for the Red Devils.
Trabzonspor have had a good season this year, with help from Onana, the Turkish side have shot up to third in the table, challenging for Champions League positions, and have just made the semi-finals of the Turkish Cup where Onana saved three out of four penalties.
Onana's career at United looks all but over with the side looking like they have been able to sort their goalkeeper issue, something United have struggled to find since the departure of David De Gea
Trabzonspor president wants Onana to stay
Trabzonspor president, Ertugrul Dogan, has come out and publicly praised Onana, trying to play his hand in getting the Cameroonian shot-stopper to sign for the club personally.
"If the conditions are right, we want him to stay," Dogan told reporters, as relayed by NTV Spor.
There are issues within Trabzonspor's camp; however, as Onana is still one of United's bigger earners, reportedly earning £120,000-a-week, something he may need to reduce if he wants to continue his career with the Turkish side.
Man United could also demand a hefty transfer fee, as they will try to recoup the £47 million they paid to Inter Milan, which could also affect Onana's proposed move.
Could Onana ever play for United again?
It feels like it will be difficult to see Onana in a United shirt again, given his very difficult time in England and never quite looking at home.
He has thrived before and after Man United, making you question why it never worked out for him.
There is also the issue of how he would get past Lammens, who has been revolutionary and had a major impact in United getting Champions League qualification.
One of the main worries in Onana's United career was the Champions League, where United were drawn, losing to Galatasaray and Copenhagen along the way.
