The Green Bay Packers continue to reshape their coaching staff by adding a familiar and respected NFL name.
Green Bay has hired former defensive back Daniel Bullocks, most recently the defensive backs coach for the San Francisco 49ers, to join Jonathan Gannon’s new-look staff.
Bullocks arrives in Green Bay after spending the past nine seasons with the 49ers, where he steadily climbed the coaching ladder and earned a strong reputation around the league
While Bullock’s official title has yet to be announced, his background suggests he will play a significant role in developing the Packers’ secondary, particularly at cornerback.
Bullocks brings an extensive football résumé to Green Bay. A standout at Nebraska, he was selected in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and enjoyed a solid professional playing career before transitioning into coaching.
His coaching journey began at Northern Iowa from 2012 through 2014, followed by a brief stop as cornerbacks coach at Eastern Michigan.
In 2016, Bullocks earned his first NFL coaching role as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He truly established his reputation during a nine-year tenure with the 49ers.
Bullocks joined Kyle Shanahan’s original staff in 2017 as an assistant defensive backs coach, working closely with then-49ers defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley, who later became Green Bay’s defensive coordinator before moving on to Miami.
Bullocks was promoted to safeties coach in 2019, then elevated to defensive backs coach for the past three seasons, while also serving as defensive passing game coordinator.
Earlier in his tenure, Bullocks also played a major role in Richard Sherman’s successful 2019 season.
His influence also showed up in player development. Safety Talanoa Hufanga blossomed into a Pro Bowler in 2022, while cornerback Charvarius Ward earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023.
Bullocks is particularly known for his extensive film work, often creating detailed “teach tapes” to help young players understand technique and anticipation by studying elite veterans.
That approach helped San Francisco’s defensive backs consistently compete against some of the league’s top passing attacks.
For a Packers team looking to solidify its secondary and build continuity under a new defensive structure, adding a respected coach with deep playoff experience is a meaningful step.
Bullocks now brings that experience and attention to detail to Green Bay.
