The San Francisco 49ers advanced to the Divisional Round with a gritty 23–19 Wild Card win over the Philadelphia Eagles, but the box score only tells part of the story. Pro Football Focus grades reveal a lot more to the story.
Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson delivered one of the best performances of any player on the field. Robinson earned a season-high 89.5 offensive grade across 40 snaps, the highest on the team. He also posted the best receiving grade of the game (87.8), hauling in six receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown, including a game-altering 61-yard catch early on. In a windy environment where separation mattered more than precision, Robinson consistently won his matchups.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk continued to prove his value as one of the most versatile weapons in football. Juszczyk earned an 81.0 offensive grade on 28 snaps and led the team in run blocking with a season-high 78.9 run-blocking grade. He also contributed in the passing game, finishing with a 75.6 receiving grade on four catches for 49 yards while filling in admirably after George Kittle exited with an Achilles injury.
Along the offensive line, center Jake Brendel stood out as San Francisco’s most consistent blocker. Brendel earned a 70.0 offensive grade and posted the team’s best pass-blocking grade (80.0). Right tackle Colton McKivitz followed with a 69.2 grade, while Trent Williams, returning to the lineup, earned a 65.9 offensive grade over 59 snaps.
Quarterback Brock Purdy finished 18-of-31 for 262 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, good for an 80.3 passer rating. However, the underlying metrics tell a tougher story. Purdy earned a season-low 56.8 offensive grade and a 61.5 passing grade, reflecting missed opportunities and the impact of persistent pressure. While Purdy delivered clutch throws, turnovers and protection breakdowns limited the offense’s rhythm.
One bright spot came on a trick play, where Jauan Jennings completed his only pass of the game, a touchdown to Christian McCaffrey, earning a 71.0 passing grade.
San Francisco’s offensive line struggled at times, surrendering 18 total pressures, with 16 charged to the offensive line. Pressure distribution was led by:
Burford finished as the lowest-graded offensive lineman overall (63.3) and posted the team’s worst pass-blocking grade (42.0). Puni recorded the lowest run-blocking grade among linemen (57.0). Additional pressures were allowed by Brian Robinson and Jake Tonges, one each.
Not everyone fared well. Malik Turner posted a 33.5 offensive grade on just four snaps, while Luke Farrell earned a 35.0 grade over 19 snaps and recorded the lowest receiving grade of the game (30.0). Farrell, Turner, and Jennings were each credited with a drop.
Skyy Moore earned a 45.0 offensive grade, was the team’s lowest-graded run blocker (53.4), but ironically posted the best run grade (62.8) after a single three-yard carry. Brian Robinson earned a 50.6 offensive grade and posted the worst pass-blocking grade of the game (5.1).
The 49ers’ rushing attack was uncharacteristically inefficient. Christian McCaffrey finished with 48 rushing yards on 15 carries (3.2 YPC) and earned just a 50.4 rushing grade. However, McCaffrey made his biggest impact through the air, earning a 72.8 receiving grade while catching six passes for 66 yards and two receiving touchdowns, including the game-winner.
While the 49ers’ offense wasn’t at its sharpest, elite performances from Demarcus Robinson, Kyle Juszczyk, and timely execution from Purdy and McCaffrey were enough to overcome protection issues and advance. If San Francisco wants to continue its playoff run, a more efficient ground game will need to happen in the NFC Divisional Round.
