Ajax have rejected PSG's opening bid for Mika Godts, and no agreement between the two clubs is currently close.
Paris Saint-Germain are working very hard to sign Mika Godts from Ajax.
Godts was spotted with PSG's technical director, Luis Campos, in Portugal last week, and the reigning European champions have agreed personal terms with the Belgian winger. They are, however, yet to reach an agreement with Ajax over a transfer fee, despite making an opening bid.
Ajax technical director Jordi Cruijff has expressed his desire for Godts to stay for at least one more year. Godts scored 17 goals and registered 12 assists in the Eredivisie last season, and if he stays, he will be a crucial player as Ajax attempt to win the Eredivisie.
Should Godts leave, Ajax are expected to have a very busy end to the window, with at least four, potentially even five, more signings expected. Ajax have identified Noa Lang as a potential replacement for Godts, and have held initial talks over a potential deal for the Napoli winger.
Ajax reject PSG's opening bid for Mika Godts
PSG's opening bid for Godts was worth a total of €45 million: €40 million guaranteed plus €5 million in potential bonuses, which were reportedly easily achievable.
According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, Ajax have rejected that offer, and the valuation gap is so large that there are currently no negotiations ongoing. PSG are yet to make a second offer. It had been reported that Ajax wanted €60 million, but Verweij reports that Ajax actually want more than that. Ajax are now waiting for a 'more realistic offer'.
Part of the reason Ajax are demanding a fee in excess of €60 million is that PSG have a lot of financial power and the Parisians have already made €160 million in player sales this summer.
Cruijff sees Godts as an important player who can help Ajax become champions this season and has said publicly he does not want to sell him.
Would Lang be a good replacement for Godts?
Lang is on Ajax's shortlist to replace Godts, and initial talks over a potential deal have taken place. The former Ajax player is set to leave Napoli this summer, just one year after moving to Naples. He spent the last six months of the season on loan at Galatasaray, and the Turkish club had the option to sign him for €30 million, but decided not to activate that clause.
Lang is reportedly open to returning to Amsterdam, but Ajax will undoubtedly also have other names on their shortlist.
While Lang is a very good player and has proven he can be impactful in the Eredivisie, he would reportedly cost €25 million, and that is a lot of money for a player who is coming off the back of a very poor season.
Ajax could very possibly find better value on the market.
