The Inevitable and Possible Cure of BBS Network
No matter how agree you are to the mission of BBS network, you probably notice there are countless posts with little to none value every time you visit any popular BBS.
It's pretty easy to post with just a (few) word(s) of limited meaning and/or a random image.
What worse is that it's even easier to purchase any post that comes up to your screen by the time you visit it. Since the system awards the first purchase of a user each day, it's the posts at low prices got purchased first. The longer the users are expected to peruse the posts, the higher the chances they will abandon the purchase due to price pump.
The adverse scenario can be addressed by the diligent admin/moderators, e.g. strictly enforcing the shit post rule. However, it will inevitably fail shall the posts become overwhelming and the efforts couldn't be justified by itself.
Therefore it's key to keep the cost of gaming the system high enough so as to eliminate the idea altogether while minimizing the cost to moderate.
For this, here are some ideas:
- Purchase interval - to apply an interval system, where the more content in the post purchased, the longer the time out the owner can purchase another.
- Inverse purchase quota - to apply a quota system, where the more content in one post, the less portion consumed in a user's daily purchase quota.
- Genuinely bidding - the users will pay for a portion of the prices with their earned CT, if any, the second time and beyond they purchase the same post.
- Batch hiding - the admin/moderators can use an interface to search/filter the posts and then hide them in batches.
- Auto hiding - the post gets hidden automatically when its like/dislike ratio hits a certain threshold.
Let's hope more discussions can lead to more solid solutions.
