XRP, by Ripple, is centered around using the blockchain for transactions and efficiently catering to the needs of the entire world.

The Lightning Network cannot do this with Bitcoin because it has a lot of downsides and nothing more than the fact that it still needs to be settled on the base layer and that nodes have to be online at all times, thus relying on the guarantees of the contract.

On the other hand, XRPL provides instant payment channels and thus does not depend on the need for collateral, and the xrp ledger base layer is fast and efficient to settle on.
