Mir Diamond Mine, Yakutia.

Dec 3, 2022 8:34 AM

The man-made diamond quarry was named "Mir" for a reason: after discovering the source, geologists transmitted a coded radiogram to Moscow: "They lit a pipe of peace, excellent tobacco." And why the tube? It's simple: that's what geologists call such deposits. Nowadays, the mine is no longer operational, and tourists have a chance to look at a colossal quarry — one and a half kilometers in diameter! The Yakuts believe that diamond deposits in their lands are associated with interference from above: once it was so cold that a deity floating in the sky froze his hand and dropped a whole bag of diamonds on the ground.
