Another muscle injury casts doubt on this Real Madrid star; initially, he will miss his national team's matches during the International Break, but there is also a risk he could miss the series against Bayern Munich.

Thibaut Courtois set off alarms again at Real Madrid after a new muscle injury to the anterior rectus of his right quadriceps was confirmed, according to the official medical report published Thursday, March 19, resulting in a significant loss for both his club and his national team.

The news comes at a particularly delicate time for the Madrid club, which is in the final stretch of LaLiga and the decisive stages of the UEFA Champions League.

Although the club’s statement did not specify an exact recovery time, media outlets such as Claro Sports indicate the goalkeeper will be sidelined for approximately six weeks, which would rule him out of several high-profile commitments, including Belgium’s match against Mexico.

Internationally, the goalkeeper's absence impacts the Belgium national team, which had scheduled friendly matches during the March International Break. Courtois will not be available for the games against the United States and Mexico, the latter of which is one of the most anticipated matches due to the Real Madrid goalkeeper's presence.

Courtois’ injury occurred midway through the playoff series against Manchester City and comes just before the team faces Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals. This scenario complicates Arbeloa's plans as the Madrid coach, who loses one of his most decisive players.

If the estimated recovery time holds, the goalkeeper would not only miss the European series against Bayern but also important league matches, including the derby against Atletico Madrid, as well as key games against rivals such as Mallorca, Girona, Alaves, and Betis.

The official diagnosis indicates a muscle injury to the anterior rectus of the right quadriceps. This is a crucial area for the goalkeeper’s explosive movements, stability, and support, so a rushed recovery could imply greater risks.

Although initially discussed as a minor discomfort, medical studies revealed the problem was more serious than expected. Therefore, Real Madrid’s medical staff will opt for conservative treatment, prioritizing the player’s full recovery before his return to action.

Courtois’ injury also revives concerns about his physical condition in recent years. The goalkeeper has experienced various problems, including an anterior cruciate ligament rupture that kept him off the field for much of the 2023-24 season, as well as recurrent muscle discomfort and other physical issues.

This history has led the club to be especially cautious with his recovery, avoiding any type of relapse that could compromise his availability at the end of the season or even in future competitions.

Although there is no official return date, the estimated six-week period suggests his possible reappearance between late April and early May. However, everything will depend on his clinical evolution and how he responds to treatment.
