The transfer portal has closed, and the chaos and bedlam that comes with it has abated, at least for another year. The TCU Horned Frogs ended last season with a three-game winning streak, with a thrilling finale with a 30-27 win over No. 16 USC in the Alamo Bowl to finish 9-4.
Josh Hoover, who ran the Horned Frogs offense for three seasons, entered the portal and landed at Indiana and will play for Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers in 2026.
Hoover passed for over 3,400 yards, 29 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season, and completed 66 percent of his passes. He set a school record for passing yards in a season, with 3,949 yards in 2024.
Kenny Seals, who led the Horned Frogs to victory against USC, has also exhausted his eligibility.
As a result, coach Sonny Dykes has found a talented replacement for Hoover to lead the Horned Frogs, someone who not only has the skills to play the position but also has what it takes between the ears to make good decisions on where to go with the football.
Dykes will welcome former Harvard quarterback Jaden Craig to Fort Worth.
Craig, 6-3, 230 pounds, was a two-time finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given to the top offensive player in the FCS. Last season, Harvard reeled off nine straight victories leading up to “The Game” with Yale. Against the Bulldogs, Craig threw for 306 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in a 45-28 loss.
Craig passed for 2869 yards, 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions, as the Crimson finished with a 9-2 record and earned a berth in the FCS playoffs. For his efforts, Craig was named first-team All-Ivy League.
Craig led Harvard to back-to-back Ivy League championships in 2023 and 2024. He also is the school’s all-time leader in passing yards (6,074) and passing touchdowns (52).
With spring practice still three months away, Craig will have to battle redshirt freshman Adam Schobel and early signee Jack Daulton for quarterback supremacy to see who commands the offense when fall camp starts in August.
The transfer portal has wreaked havoc in college football in ways no one thought imaginable. Teams are constantly having to make personnel changes to maintain success. Some teams are able to reload, and most have to rebuild. Coach Dykes may have found the best player available in Craig to take the reins of his offense and lead the Horned Frogs to success in 2026.
