Former Texas Longhorns star kicker Cameron Dicker etched his name into the history books on Monday night. The Chargers' kicker officially became the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history. He’d already been one of the most accurate by percentage, but until he cleared the 100-attempt mark, he couldn’t claim the title.
On Monday Night Football against the Las Vegas Raiders, Dicker knocked in a first quarter field goal that sealed it. He’s now 94/100 to start his NFL career. That’s the highest field goal percentage in league history for a player with at least 100 attempts. That historic make put him at 3/3 on the season thus far.
It’s an absurdly hot start. Records can change and accuracy can fluctuate, but right now he owns the top spot. If he keeps stacking makes, he can put real distance between himself and the field from a longevity standpoint.
Before this run in the NFL, Dicker was a four-year standout at Texas. He converted 75.9% of his field goal attempts as a Longhorn, which put him fourth in program history for accuracy. He also handled punting his last two seasons, making him one of the most dynamic special teamers in the country.
Extra points were always automatic with him, as he hit 206 of 210 at Texas. That consistency was a preview of the pro he’s become.
Dicker will always be one of the most memorable kickers in Texas history. He’s got a real case in the broader college football conversation, too. The now 25-year-old is a legend in the NFL and he’s already rewriting the record book.
If he keeps this up, more milestones will fall. For Texas fans and Chargers fans alike, it’s been fun to watch “Dicker the Kicker” turn efficiency into history.
