Longhorns basketball season opener thoughts?
The Texas Longhorns kicked off basketball season tonight, falling to the Duke Blue Devils by a final score of 75-60. Although it was a double-digit loss, there was a lot to like about the Longhorns' effort. What were your biggest takeaways from the opener? Did staying competitive with the No. 6 team in the country for most of the game give you more optimism? The SEC is loaded with talent this season, so there will be plenty more opportunities to play a team of Duke's caliber once conference play comes around.

Sarkisian provides positive injury update on Ryan Wingo
After exiting the game with a hand injury in the first quarter of today’s Texas win over Vanderbilt, star WR Ryan Wingo never returned. After the game, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian gave a positive update. "I think in an emergency he could have went back in today," Sarkisian said. "So I don't think it's over … it's not going to be lost time. We'll see. I don't know." While it sounds like there’s still some things are unclear, the early indication is that Wingo won’t miss any time. Texas has a bye week ahead, which helps.

Reason for confidence if Matthew Caldwell starts on Saturday
Arch Manning is still questionable to play on Saturday against Vanderbilt as he looks to clear concussion protocol. But if he can’t play, Mathew Caldwell will take over the offense. If that unfolds, there’s reason to believe he can get the job done. In this recent article that highlights Caldwell, his high school coach spoke about his football IQ. If Caldwell plays, are you confident in the Texas offense?

Texas Longhorns' secret weapon is no longer a secret
Texas has a secret weapon, and it's Ryan Niblett. But the problem is that he's becoming less of a secret and teams are starting to gameplan for him. "The punt returner is dynamic, and we got to really have some answers for that," Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea said of Niblett. Now that he's established himself as a real special teams threat, will teams stop punting to him? Niblett has completely flipped multiple games this season.

Texas favorited in all but one remaining game?
Predictions aren't always right, but ESPN Analytics matchup predictor for Texas the rest of the way is interesting. Despite not giving fans much of a reason to believe the Longhorns are CFP contenders, they're favored in all but one of their remaining games. Do you buy these projections?

Concern level if Arch Manning can't play?
If Arch Manning -- who is in concussion protocol -- can't play this weekend against Vanderbilt, what is your concern level? As good as this Texas defense is, the Longhorns will also need to manufacture points in order to keep up with a team this good.

One final tune-up game before reality
The Texas Longhorns have tremendous potential, but it hasn't come together often enough. But it's almost time for the toughest part of their schedule, shortly after a game against Mississippi State this weekend. Beyond that game, a plethora of games against ranked teams faces the Longhorns. As such, this weekend is the last opportunity to tune-up the roster and get ready for do-or-die time.

Michael Taaffe could be back for Georgia game
Big news on the injury front was reported today by Inside Texas, saying Michael Taaffe is expected to miss just three weeks with his injury. Relative to what the return timetable could have been, this is great news. Can Texas hold up without him over that span? This means the Longhorns could get Taaffe back for the Georgia game.

Texas loses key defensive leader other than injury
It was reported on Tuesday that Michael Taaffe underwent thumb surgery earlier this week and will miss the foreseeable future, but isn't expected to be out for the season. This is a huge blow to the defense, especially given he's a leader on this team. Who needs to step up in his absence? Can this team still play championship-level defense without him?

What does Texas win over Kentucky actually tell us?
Texas pulled off a 16-13 OT win at Kentucky, but let’s be real — the offense didn’t show up (just 179 yards) while the defense and special teams carried the load. With that in mind: is this a true step forward for the Horns, or yet another “ugly win” that hides bigger problems? What specific thing needs to improve this week for this win to matter moving forward: the run game, pass protection, or receiver rhythm?
