Texas Tech lands a huge flip as four-star TE Matt Ludwig, the top player from Montana, ditches Michigan and joins the Red Raiders' surging 2026 class.
Joey McGuire's recruiting machine keeps rolling, and this time, it just flipped a massive talent from one of college football's blue bloods.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders have officially landed four-star tight end Matt Ludwig, a former Michigan commit and the top-ranked player from Montana.
Ludwig was released from his letter of intent after Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore was dismissed earlier this week for an off-field issue, and Texas Tech wasted no time closing the deal.
Ludwig made the announcement himself on X, simply posting:
“Guns up!”
And just like that, the 6-5 playmaker known as "Moose" became the newest - and only - tight end in Tech's 2026 class, which now ranks No. 17 nationally, per 247Sports.
"Ludwig is arguably the best prospect to come out of the Big Sky State in the last decade, if not longer," said 247Sports' Greg Biggins.
He's not just hype. Ludwig caught 50 passes for 736 yards and 10 touchdowns his senior year at Billings West (MT), while also rushing for 136 yards and logging four sacks and 35 tackles on defense.
Oh, and he's the Montana AA discus state champ and a 4x100 relay contributor. Translation? Freak athlete.
Texas Tech tight ends coach Josh Cochran, who likely kept the door open during Ludwig's Michigan commitment, posted "Relationships matter" on social media ... a quiet nod to the persistence that made this flip possible.
Ludwig joins a class loaded with offensive talent, including five-star tackle Felix Ojo, who couldn’t contain his excitement:

With veterans Terrance Carter Jr. and Juancarlos Miller II moving on, Ludwig walks into a tight end room with snaps to earn and expectations to exceed.
