Ursula von der Leyen said that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has a special responsibility to uphold the basic principles of the UN Charter.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this after a meeting with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“This visit is taking place in a challenging and increasing volatile context, in particular, because of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. China's position on this is crucial for the European Union. As a member of the UN Security Council, there is a big responsibility and we expect that China will play its role and promote a just peace, one that respects Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, one of the cornerstones of the UN Charter,“ the EU top diplomat said.
The President of the European Commission also added that during the negotiations with Xi, she expressed strong support for Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace plan and welcomed some of the principles that had been put forward by China.
“This is notably the case on the issue of nuclear safety and risk reduction, and China's statement on the unacceptability of nuclear threats or the use of nuclear weapons. We also count on China not to provide any military equipment directly or indirectly to Russia, because we all know arming the aggressor would be against international law, and it would significantly harm our relationship“, highlighted von der Leyen.

The Head of the Joint Press Center Natalia Humeniuk expressed this opinion on the United News telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"We can conclude that the enemy's use of aircraft with guided bombs is a step of desperation because they have nothing else to use," the spokesperson said.

He noted that Poland strongly supports Ukraine's membership in NATO. "We hope that we will be able to obtain such guarantees for Ukraine as a prelude to Ukraine's future full membership of NATO, in which Poland has strongly supported Ukraine all the time," the Polish president added.
Duda also said that Poland supports Ukraine becoming a full member of the European Union as quickly as possible.

According to him, Poland is currently the third largest country -- after the United States and Britain -- in terms of the amount of military aid provided to Ukraine.

In addition, both parties discussed "complex elements of the past" between Ukraine and Poland and important historical issues that "very often remain a wound in many families today." According to Duda, there is "no taboo" on this topic between the two leaders.
"I am convinced that President [Zelensky] and I will pursue a calm, consistent and good policy of building ties between our peoples, including the policy of memory - honest, reliable memory," he said.
He added that the ties between the Polish and Ukrainian peoples had become closer amid the dramatic situation in which the Ukrainians found themselves due to Russian aggression and the two nations would be able to "build a great future."Apr 5, 2023
