It’s Time to Retire the ‘Trap Game’ Narrative for Alabama cover image

A win is a win. There's no denying that. Regardless of the score, as long as a team like Alabama secures the victory, that's all that matters. But Saturday's road win over the Missouri Tigers said a lot.

Saturday wasn’t some sleepy matchup that Alabama overlooked.

It wasn’t a “trap game.”

It was an undefeated, 15th-ranked Missouri Tigers football team playing at home. And Alabama handled its business.

Yes, it wasn’t perfect.

The offensive line gave up four sacks.

The defense had stretches where Missouri started to find rhythm.

The second half wasn’t exactly pretty.

But when it mattered most, Alabama Crimson Tide football did what Alabama always does: it found a way to win.

That’s the difference between good teams and great programs. Good teams fall into “trap games.” Great programs turn tough road tests into defining moments.

This was a statement win for the Crimson Tide.

A momentum win.

A testament win.

This team showed grit. This team showed growth. This team showed they’re not who they were in Week 1. They’re better. Hungrier. More determined.

When the game hung in the balance, Alabama made plays. Like Ty Simpson's insane completion on 4th and 8. Or the clutch interception from Dijon Lee Jr. that sealed it. That’s what championship DNA looks like.

The “trap game” narrative has never really fit Alabama.

It’s a myth outsiders cling to because they’re waiting for a stumble. But this program under Kalen DeBoer now and Nick Saban before him, doesn’t play to the level of the opponent. Or at least they try not to. Alabama plays to the level of its OWN standard. And that standard doesn’t waver, whether it’s a top-five team or an unranked opponent.

Saturday's victory wasn’t luck.

This was discipline. Preparation. Resilience.

Now, Alabama turns the page to a huge rivalry matchup with the Tennessee Volunteers at home this coming Saturday.

But make no mistake, this win mattered. It silenced doubters. It showed how far this team has come since the start of the season.

Keep doubting. Keep hating. That’s fine. Alabama will just keep stacking wins.

The standard never left. It was just waiting to remind everyone.

Roll Tide.
