Bears' OT Win Over Packers Was Legitimately Historic cover image

From a 10-point deficit, the Bears staged an improbable comeback, capped by a historic overtime victory that rewrite the record books.

The Chicago Bears delivered on Saturday night, beating the Green Bay Packers 22-16 in overtime to tighten their grip on the NFC North.

After trailing for most of the game, Chicago turned things around in the final six minutes. The Bears found themselves in a 16-6 hole with 5:03 left.

Cairo Santos hit a field goal with 1:59 remaining to make it 16-9. Then, the unthinkable happened.

Chicago lined up for an onside kick, and the ball bounced off the hands of Romeo Doubs, as the Bears recovered.

Caleb Williams then forced overtime with a touchdown pass to rookie Jahdae Walker. The Packers got the ball first, but a muffed snap on 4th-and-1 gave the Bears a chance to win with any score.

Williams found D.J. Moore for the game-winner, as Chicago is now 11-4. The win was a legendary moment for Chicago, but it was also historic.

The Bears now have six wins this season after trailing in the final two minutes of the game, the most since the 1970 merger.

It was also the first time that Chicago had beaten Green Bay after overcoming a 10-point or more deficit since 1960. The Bears trailed the Packers 14-0 in that game and went on to win 17-14.

Saturday's game had plenty of drama.

The Packers had Jordan Love at quarterback to start the game, but he suffered a concussion in the second quarter and was ruled out. Backup Malik Willis was under center for Green Bay the rest of the way.

Willis finished with 121 passing yards, 44 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Chicago now needs the Detroit Lions to lose on Sunday, and it will clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2020.

The Lions take on Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16. It'll be interesting to see if Rodgers feels like helping the Bears, a team he didn't have much trouble beating while with Green Bay.

Rodgers went 24-5 against the Bears during his time with the Packers.

As many times before this season, we have witnessed this team rise to the occasion despite the odds being stacked against them. The San Francisco 49ers and Lions stand in Chicago's way before the conclusion of the regular season.

The 49ers are the No. 6 seed heading into the weekend after the Seattle Seahawks beat the Los Angeles Rams 38-37 in overtime on Thursday Night Football.

The Bears and 49ers kick off next Sunday at 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock.
