Bears Struggling Defense Gets Even Worse With Latest Injury News cover image

Key linebacker TJ Edwards sidelined adds another blow to a struggling Bears defense facing a tough matchup.

The Chicago Bears had a mostly clean injury report on Friday, but lost a massive part of their defense heading into the Week 10 slate.

The Bears allow the fourth most points (28.4), 10th-most passing yards (248.25) and eighth-most rushing yards per game (131.13) in the NFL.

It didn't help Chicago lost one of its top players on defense for the New York Giants game.

Defensive back Josh Blackwell (concussion), linebacker TJ Edwards (hand/hamstring) and defensive lineman Dominique Robinson (ankle) were all out. It was disappointing to see Edwards out, as he has played in just five games this season.

Edwards has 31 total tackles and one tackle for loss this season.

Only two players were questionable, with running back D'Andre Swift (groin) and tight end Durham Smythe (calf) look to be game-time decisions.

Receiver Luther Burden III (concussion), defensive back Kevin Byard (back/ankle), defensive lineman Grady Jarrett (NIR), running back Roschon Johnson (back), tight end Cole Kmet (concussion), running back Kyle Monangai (ankle), receiver DJ Moore (hip/groin), receiver Rome Odunze (ankle/heel), linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga (knee) and offensive lineman Joe Thuney (NIR) all didn't carry injury designations.

Edwards suffered a hand injury in the 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9. He had surgery to repair the hand injury and is also dealing with a nagging hamstring injury that has limited him this season.

It'll be interesting to see how the Chicago defense responds in Edwards' absence. Against the Bengals, the Bears gave up 495 total offensive yards.

The Bears also couldn't seem to hold on to a lead in the game, blowing a 41-27 lead in the fourth quarter, as Cincinnati lead 42-41 with 54 seconds left.

Edwards is in the first year of a two-year, $20 million extension with Chicago that has him set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2028.

While this season has been difficult for him, he has still been consistent with Chicago, accounting for 315 total tackles, four interceptions and 6.5 sacks.

While the Chicago defense has had its fair share of problems in 2025, the New York Giants aren't much better on that side of the ball. The Giants allow the second most rushing yards per game (150) and ninth-most passing yards per game (249).

Regardless, Chicago's defense must find a way to respond without Edwards in the lineup. Kickoff from Soldier Field will be at noon CT on Fox this Sunday.
