Christian Watson's Status Uncertain for Saturday's Game vs. Bears cover image

Packers star receiver Christian Watson's status is questionable. His absence would be a major blow to Green Bay facing Chicago again.

The Chicago Bears are getting another chance at the Green Bay Packers after the 28-21 loss in Week 14.

It hasn't felt like that long since the loss at Lambeau Field, but the NFC playoff picture has been in flux since then.

Heading into Week 14, the Bears were the No. 1 seed. That all changed when the Packers won, putting the Bears at the No. 7 seed and second place in the NFC North. The Los Angeles Rams reclaimed the top seed by winning their game.

Green Bay wasn't on top of the NFC North long, as it fell back to second place with a 34-26 loss to the Denver Broncos. The Bears are now back in the top four after beating the Cleveland Browns 31-3 on Sunday.

Green Bay and Chicago play again on Saturday, but this time, the Packers may not have Christian Watson.

Watson suffered a chest and shoulder injury in the loss to the Broncos, and head coach Matt LaFleur stated that the receiver will have until game time to see if he can play.

Watson was injured after attempting a contested catch that Patrick Surtain II intercepted.

"Yeah, he's another guy that, not quite sure," LaFleur said. 'We'll give him up to game time to see if he can go, and I know it's all every one of these guys are gonna be fighting to make it by game time.

The Packers' head coach was asked further about Watson, whether the injury was related to pain calibration. However, LaFleur believed there was also functionality tied to it.

"Certainly, the pain's a big part of it, but functionality, and he's got to prove that throughout the course of the week," LaFleur said.

If Watson is out for the Week 16 matchup, it would be a massive blow to the Packers. Watson torched the Bears' secondary multiple times in Week 14, finishing with four receptions for 89 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

He scored his first in the second quarter, and then another on the Packers' second drive of the third quarter.

The Bears were supposed to have Kyler Gordon ready for Week 14's game, but he suffered a groin injury during pregame warmups and was ruled out. He was moved to the injured reserve earlier this week, meaning that his 2025 season is now over.

Fans can expect to see C.J. Gardner-Johnson at nickel for the remainder of the season with Gordon's injury.

Saturday's game will be crucial for both sides with the division and NFC standings as tight as they are.

Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
