Could the Cleveland Browns actually trade superstar Myles Garrett?

The Cleveland Browns have hired Todd Monken as their new head coach, and they might lose defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz because of it.

Schwartz was reportedly very upset over missing out on the Browns' head-coaching job yet again, and now, his future with the team is in question.

Following the Schwartz news, defensive end Myles Garrett made a rather cryptic social media post showing a visibly tired employee sitting on a bench.

Remember: Garrett demanded a trade from Cleveland last offseason because he was frustrated with the franchise's direction, but the Browns ultimately signed him a to a four-year, $160 million contract extension in March.

Could trade winds pick up around Garrett again?

Trade ideas are already being floated, and Isaac Zuniga of Heavy.com has pitched a proposal in which Cleveland would send the superstar pass rusher to the Chicago Bears in exchange for the 25th overall pick, a second-rounder and a 2027 fifth-round draft choice.

That actually seems like a fairly light return for Garrett, who was expected to command a couple of first-rounders if the Browns dealt him last year.

Yes, Garrett is 30 years old, but he just set the single-season record with 23 sacks to go along with 60 tackles, 33 tackles for loss and 39 quarterback hits.

The Texas A&M product has earned seven Pro Bowl selections while notching First-Team All-Pro honors five times since entering the NFL as a No. 1 overall pick in 2017. Most importantly, he won a Defensive Player of the Year award in 2023.

Garrett is under contract through 2030, and the Browns would get slapped with a $41 million dead cap hit if they traded him this offseason.

Unless Garrett truly forces Cleveland's hand, the chances of the Browns trading him are slim to none. And even if he does demand to be dealt, Cleveland doesn't really have to oblige considering he is under contract for many more years.

The Browns went 5-12 in 2025 and went just 3-14 the season prior. That followed a 2023 campaign in which Cleveland made the playoffs.

Since Garrett's arrival nearly a decade ago, the Browns have made just two postseason appearances.
