The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing with some depth issues at running back, and they activated Clyde Edwards-Helaire from the practice squad.

The Kansas City Chiefs head to Buffalo on Sunday to take on the Bills in the latest matchup in what  has become the NFL's best rivalry over the last few seasons.

After an 0-2 start, the Chiefs once again look like a Super Bowl contender as they have won five of their last six games.

Patrick Mahomes once again looks like an NFL MVP,  and the offense is playing at a level it hasn't in quite some time. One other area that has improved on the offense is the rushing attack, but leading rusher Isiah Pacheco is out on Sunday with a sprained MCL.

With that, it leaves only Kareem Hunt and Brashard Smith on the active roster, so the Chiefs announced on Sunday that they would be activating former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Edwards-Helaire starred at LSU during his college career, capping it off as the starting running back on the historic 2019 national champions. He was teammates with guys like Justin Jefferson, Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase.

After that year, he entered the NFL Draft and was selected by the Chiefs with the No. 32 pick.

He had an impressive rookie season, as he finished with 1,100 total yards of offense and scored five touchdowns. He spent three more seasons in Kansas City, and has been a part of two Super Bowl championship teams.

Last season, he signed with the New Orleans Saints, and appeared in two games. He was signed to the Chiefs practice squad in August, and will be apart of the 53-man roster on Sunday.

While much of the talk has been how the Chiefs passing game has been, there have been major improvements with the rushing attack as well. Early in the year, Mahomes was shouldering a big part of the rushing attack, and he was taking big shots.

The Chiefs are never going to be a physical, smash-mouth type of running team as long as Mahomes is the quarterback. However, they do need to be able to at least make defenses think they are going to run it. This will open up the play-action game, and allow Mahomes to get outside the pocket.

One area the rushing game has done a great job is extending drives. Hunt has been especially good in this area, and is a big reason why the Chiefs have converted a league-high 14 fourth downs.

Kickoff between the Chiefs and the Bills is on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET, and the game will be on CBS.
