The Kansas City Chiefs seem to finally be firing on all cylinders eight weeks into the 2025 season. They’ve won five of their last six games as they head into a Week 9 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Even with things clicking for the Chiefs, they should still look to improve their roster via trades ahead of the deadline next Tuesday. In a recent Bleacher Report article, writer Brad Gagnon predicted Kansas City to land current New York Jets running back Breece Hall to bolster its questionable backfield.
Hall, 24, currently ranks sixth in the NFL in rushing yards with 581 in eight games. He’s coming off his best game of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals, in which he rushed 18 times for 133 yards and scored his first two touchdowns of the season. Hall has been a decent contributor in the passing game as well, catching 21 passes for 178 yards this season.
Since being taken by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft, Hall has shown flashes of being great, but hasn’t been able to put it all together in New York. Whether or not the Jets as a team are to blame for that is arguable, but Hall has yet to rush for 1,000 yards in a season or score more than five rushing touchdowns. He may finally eclipse that milestone this season as he’s on pace to finish with 1,235 yards by the end of the year.
Hall poses a significant threat to opposing defenses, and this threat could be even more pronounced if he is surrounded by talent such as quarterback Patrick Mahomes and ball catchers Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy. Not being one of the two top offensive threats, as he has been in New York for four seasons now, could allow Hall to play his game more freely.
Depending on the price, the Chiefs should bite on Hall, as their rushing game has been subpar this season. It took weeks for a running back to overtake Mahomes as the team's leading rusher. Heading into Week 9, Isiah Pacheco leads the team with 329 rushing yards, only good enough for 28th in the NFL.
The addition of Hall would likely take some time for head coach Andy Reid to figure out how to use Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, and Hall, but it’d undoubtedly make the ground game more of a threat, further unlocking their passing game. If the price is right, why not take a shot?
