Schottenheimer made a big decision to bench CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens for the first series against the Raiders, and he was right in doing so.

Brian Schottenheimer's decision to publicly punish star receiver duo CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens for the Dallas Cowboys' first offensive drive of the game against the Las Vegas Raiders raised a lot of eyebrows.

In fact, some weren't on board with it at all.

But Schottenheimer, who cited that the pair "missed some things," decided to pull the trigger on the decision to bench his two best offensive weapons.

Why? In the name of culture.

We have seen lesser-known players be punished, but we were sure if Schotty would do it if a star player stepped out of line.

Well, as part of Monday's 33-16 win, he's put that to bed.

Wanting the best culture in professional sports, Schotty's decision falls in line with that, and there were a lot of Cowboys fans on social media who didn't agree with the decision.

I'm not one of them, and neither is our friend Shan Shariff from 105.3 The Fan, who, in my mind, hits the nail on the head when it comes to Schotty sitting his two best players.

"We can't continue to talk about culture and then have a problem with this because we desperately want to win a football game," Shariff said. "I'm talking about myself, I'm big on the culture thing, it was the C-word the entire offseason. We can't be hypocrites, I can't be a hypocrite.

"The message Brian Schottenheimer sends here is look at what you did to everyone else. Look at your selfishness, I'm being extreme here, I don't know what happened. Look at what your lack of detail did in screwing over the rest of your offense and everyone else coming off the field on a three-and-out. I'm going to support Brian Schottenheimer on this one."

Some were of the opinion that Schottenheimer should have punished the pair behind closed doors, but for two players, one seen as a leader, and the other coming with as certain reputation, what better way to get your point across than on national television have both on the sidelines.

"It's a public punishment," RJ Choppy added.

And it was.

There are clear standards that Schottenheimer wants his team to adhere to, and for too long, the culture for the Cowboys, you could argue, has been one of its biggest problems.

Granted, not many believe that Schotty will completely fix it while Jerry Jones still sits at the head of the table, but this was a nice shot across the bow to his two star players that they need to shape up.

Culture is a big thing in Dallas, and for a first time head coach to bench an All-Pro, and a receiver who is among the NFL's best, at the beginning of THAT game, with everything that had gone on before it, takes some guts.

Schottenheimer, while still professing his love for his players has made one thing very clear -- he isn't messing around when it comes to standards.

And it doesn't matter who you are.
