Tether announced it will no longer mint USDT on the Algorand and EOS blockchains, effective immediately. Redemption support will continue for the next 12 months. This decision follows an evaluation of network security, usability, and sustainability. Tether aims to prioritize resources on platforms that enhance security and efficiency. Previously, Tether ceased minting on Kusama, Bitcoin Cash's SLP, and the Omni Layer Protocol in August 2023. Despite withdrawing from Algorand and EOS, Tether is integrating with new networks, such as The Open Network (TON), where it launched $500 million worth of USDT in April 2024.
