Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown name-dropped Saquon Barkley while scoffing at a reporter's question on Thursday.
Brown was asked if he's the same player he once was.
"I guess Saquon ain't the same player either then," Brown said.
Barkley, to Brown's point, is not having a stellar statistical year either by his standards. He is on pace for 1,125 yards after rushing for 2,005 yards last season.
The Eagles are in first place in the NFC. However, their offense has been subpar this season. Philadelphia ranks 25th in total yards (300.1 per game), 28th in passing yards (184.9) and 29th in third-down conversion rate (33.87%).
Brown has 38 catches for 457 yards and three touchdowns on the season. There are many people around the NFL who believe the Eagles will trade Brown this offseason. The WR has been a major distraction, both on and off the field.
Jalen Hurts looked Browns way a lot against the Detroit Lions, targeting the WR 11 times. Brown had seven catches for 49 yards, but the Eagles scored only 16 points.
NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported in October that Hurts and Brown are "not that close these days." The Eagles are 8-2, but Brown has been frustrated with the offense all season long.
"Brown and Hurts have a long history," Russini wrote. "High school and college friends turned NFL teammates, Hurts is the godfather to Brown's daughter, Jersee. A former teammate once described them as 'an old married couple,' but I'm told they’re not that close these days.
"Like any friendship, life happens. Family responsibilities, the grind of being pros, shifting priorities. They’re friendly, but as one Eagles player described it: 'It’s functional, professional."
Here is what Brown said when a reporter asked him about the report: "Ask me about Dallas. Thank you."
Brown and the Eagles face the Dallas Cowboys this week. The Cowboys are 4-5-1.
"We're desperate, too," Brown said. "We're trying to get it going."
Even if the Eagles win the Super Bowl again this season, don't be surprised if Brown is on a new team in 2026.
