The Philadelphia Eagles improved to 6-2 on the season by beating the New York Giants in Week 8, winning by a final score of 38-20.
Eagles superstar QB Jalen Hurts continues to show why he's one of the best players in the NFL. The reigning Super Bowl MVP went 15-20 through the air for 179 yards and four touchdowns against the Giants.
NFL analyst Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report was so impressed with Hurts' performance against the Giants that he gave the Pro Bowler the following grade: A.
"When the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive leaders met after Week 5 to discuss how to get their unit back on track, the answer didn't seem obvious at the time," Sobleski wrote. "It became clear during the last two weeks. First, Saquon Barkley must be continually involved. Second, DeVonta Smith should be featured in the passing game. Finally, Dallas Goedert is too important not to be regularly targeted, particularly in the red zone.
"These basic approaches dramatically make life easier on quarterback Jalen Hurts, who has been highly efficient during the last two games. The problems were never all that bad in the first place. Want proof? Hurts became the first quarterback in NFL history to produce 15 passing touchdowns, five rushing scores and only one interception through eight weeks of play."
Hurts had a passer rating of 141.5 against the Giants. The 27-year-old goes into the bye coming off one of the most productive two-game stretches of his career: 34-43 passing for 505 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions.
"The best is yet to come," Hurts said after the game.
Hurts has 1,677 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, 207 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on the season. He's playing elite football, through the air and on the ground, and the Eagles look like Super Bowl contenders once again after struggling in Weeks 6 and 7.
A.J. Brown didn't play against the Giants, so Hurts relied on Dallas Goedert. The TE had three catches for 28 yards and two touchdowns.
"He's a big-time target," Hurts said. "And in a sense, he's due. He's due. He does a lot of dirty work in this offense. And we've had a lot of different opportunities that we've always had within, I guess, Nick and the OCs that have come over time that just haven't got called.
"So some of those things are getting called, and he's taking advantage of those opportunities. And I think (Patullo) kind of has a really good feel in the red zone."
With Hurts leading the way, the Eagles are looking to repeat as champions. Let's see if they can do it.
