To say Jaelan Phillips is excited about being on the Philadelphia Eagles is an understatement.
The former Miami Dolphin told Philadelphia reporters that getting traded to the Eagles "is literally the greatest thing that's happened to me in my whole life."
“I thought I was excited on Day One, but talk to me now. This is literally the greatest thing that’s happened to me in my whole life, probably,” Phillips said. “It’s just awesome. The guys are awesome.
"Everybody’s been super welcoming. I love the environment, I love the vibe here. The city of Philly has given me a very warm welcome. I got about 20 times the amount of Instagram likes that I ever got on a post before, from Philly fans, so shout out to them. It’s been great so far, getting out there practicing. I love the weather here, I love the locker room. Everything’s awesome.”
The Dolphins are 2-7. They will miss the playoffs again this season and could tear the roster down even more in the offseason.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 6-2. They are the defending Super Bowl champions and have a terrific roster and culture. It's pretty easy to see why Phillips is thrilled about the trade.
In nine games for the Dolphins this season, Phillips racked up 3.0 sacks, 15 solo tackles, three tackles for loss and seven quarterback hits.
Miami drafted Phillips with the 18th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Phillips has 26.0 sacks, 105 solo tackles, 18 tackles for loss and 61 quarterback hits in the NFL.
The Eagles face the Green Bay Packers in Week 10 on Monday Night Football. Philly is giving up 23.1 points per game on the season, which is 19th in the NFL.
Phillips will look to make a strong impression in his Eagles debut by taking down Jordan Love and Co.
Philadelphia is tied with the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the top record in the NFC. The stretch run of the season is very important for the Eagles, who want to get home-field advantage and avoid playing in the Wild Card Round.
