The Philadelphia Eagles will enter the offseason with plenty of questions surrounding A.J. Brown, and rightfully so. Whenever a team possesses such an elite talent at premium positions, and he acts the way he does on and off the field, trade chatter is going to happen.
Many teams could use a player of Brown’s caliber if we’re going just off on-field talent, including the Cleveland Browns.
While Cleveland’s primary focus seems to be on the quarterback, the lack of help at wide receiver has been impossible to ignore. Whether the Browns want to start Shedeur Sanders long-term or try to find a new guy in this draft or free agency class, they need more talent.
According to PennLive’s Johnny McGonigal, Brown makes sense, and he couldbe a target for Cleveland.
“Cleveland Browns: The Browns probably need to work on getting a QB first. But there is clearly a need at WR in Cleveland. The Browns own two first-rounders: No. 6 overall and No. 24 overall from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The latter would make more sense in a Brown deal,” he wrote.
Despite his attitude, Brown is still one of the best receivers in the game and capable of changing games on his own. Pairing him with a young quarterback or even a bridge option would immediately help Cleveland’s offense.
For the Eagles, Brown is an excellent piece, but considering some of his comments, it’s not the craziest thing to suggest that a divorce could be the best thing for both sides.
McGonigal’s mention of pick No. 24 rather than No. 6 is fair and accurate. Honestly, it’s tough to imagine that the Eagles will get a first-rounder for Brown, but perhaps a team like Cleveland is willing to do so.
The Browns are in a strange spot, as they’re talented enough to compete defensively, but lacking pretty much everything on offense.
The Browns also don’t have a coach right now, so that could become an issue. There are a lot of ways to look at a trade, but the Browns might not be the perfect spot. Regardless, though, it’s definitely best for the Eagles to consider it this spring and summer.
