Philadelphia Eagles fans were, in some way, rightfully a bit worried about how the organization would look after two tough losses.
On paper, the Eagles are still one of the best teams in the NFL, and I'm glad that Jalen Hurts proved that this past Sunday. Hurts did everything that he could’ve done, throwing for 326 yards and three touchdowns.
For anyone who wants to continue to doubt them, Hurts has shown that he'll come out and play his best football when it matters most.
As I've mentioned in the past, it's the fact that Hurts wants to go out there and win every single week. He isn't worried if he scores touchdowns, Saquon Barkley does, or if the offense simply isn't running through him all the time, and they have to focus on the run.
As long as it ends in a win, he's happy.
“The feeling of losing, simple as that,” Hurts said, per The Athletic. “I know there’s a clip to confirm where I said, ‘We’re not losers anymore.’ That’s all I could think about during the last two weeks. … I think definitely there was some fire there. But within that fire, you have to be the calm.”
When the going gets tough, things can often fall very fast in the NFL.
For a team that just won a Super Bowl, things didn't look as bright in Philadelphia as they were expected to. There were a few reasons for that, but the simple fact of the matter is that the Eagles just didn't play well for a few games, and it shouldn't have been viewed as anything more than that.
“The energy on the sideline was kind of great,” Mailata said. “Last two weeks hadn’t been there, to be honest. And it was nice to see everyone — but it felt like that all week. The energy was there all week. We carried it into the game.”
One win doesn't fix everything the Eagles have shown us throughout the year, but this is as positive a sign as anybody could’ve asked for.
There will be more opportunities for them to continue to show why they're as good as they are, so expect the Eagles to come out and continue playing this type of football in the future.
