It's really hard to put an exact touch on why the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has struggled for a lot of the season. There are a few ways that we can look at some of the Eagles' struggles, and with the obvious problems from Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and A.J. Brown, that's certainly 90% of the issue.
However, some don't believe that what Brown has done throughout the year is solely on him, including NFL analyst Greg Cosell, who stated that he thinks the issue is more about the pass game and Hurts rather than Brown and the offense.
“I don’t think the A.J. Brown (issue) is overly relevant to the conversation about the Eagles’ passing game,” Cosell said, per PennLive. “I’m just totally confused and, in many ways, befuddled by the fact that the Eagles’ passing game is so elementary and remedial in its concepts.”
Cosell later went on to state that he has to question some of the Eagles' offensive game plan, which is a direct shot at offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and head coach Nick Sirianni.
“The question I keep asking myself is, why? And I wish I knew the answer to that, and I’m being honest. I wish I knew why the Eagles’ passing game looks like a ninth-grade passing game in terms of concepts and route combinations,” Cosell said. “That’s the question I keep asking myself, and I don’t have an answer. But this is not an A.J. Brown question whatsoever.”
If there are a few things to look at with the Eagles, it's the fact that at times, the offense just doesn't do enough to get everybody open.
Whether that be Hurts not making the right throws, Barkley not opening the pass game by effectively running the football like he once did, and other ways, everything has truly gone wrong.
“I think that’s probably fair,” Cosell said. “But don’t forget that good passing offenses create opportunities for receivers to get open. ... The Eagles don’t really present opportunities for receivers to be open. And that to me is very, very confusing as I watch their tape.”
As we continue to examine this Eagles’ offense moving forward, I think one positive to take from this is that there are still a few games remaining in the year, with seven to be exact.
If the Eagles have time, which they do, I think they'll be just fine.
