San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey hints at ongoing roster flexibility, suggesting more moves could surface.

As the San Francisco Giants near the end of their offseason calendar, the organization finds itself balancing optimism with flexibility, as noted by Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

The club’s FanFest tour wraps up this weekend, and attention will soon shift to Scottsdale Stadium, but President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey made it clear the Giants are not necessarily done shaping their roster.

Speaking on a Zoom call following the signing of outfielder Harrison Bader, Posey said he is encouraged by the group currently in place, while noting that conversations around potential improvements are ongoing.

With pitchers and catchers reporting soon, the Giants have limited time left to adjust, but Posey emphasized that the front office remains engaged.

The addition of Bader appears to solidify center field and significantly improve the team’s defense, narrowing the list of remaining needs.

Offensively, second base stands out as the most obvious area for a potential upgrade. San Francisco has been active in trade discussions throughout the offseason, particularly with St. Louis, where utility standout Brendan Donovan has been a frequent topic.

That said, the Giants already have internal options on the 40-man roster, including Casey Schmitt, Christian Koss, and Tyler Fitzgerald, which could lessen the urgency to make a deal.

On the pitching side, San Francisco added Tyler Mahle and Adrian Houser to the starting rotation and brought in Sam Hentges and Jason Foley to reinforce the bullpen.

While those moves add depth, durability remains a concern. Foley is expected to miss the early portion of the season, and neither Mahle nor Houser has consistently logged heavy workloads in recent years.

Despite speculation around higher-end starters still on the market, Posey indicated the Giants are comfortable with their current rotation. He pointed to adjustments made by Houser and Mahle’s health as reasons for confidence, while stopping short of ruling anything out entirely.

If no further additions are made, the Giants are expected to rely on young arms such as Hayden Birdsong, Carson Whisenhunt, Blade Tidwell, and Trevor McDonald at various points during the season, either as starters or bullpen contributors.

The bullpen remains one of the roster’s biggest question marks, particularly at the back end. Ryan Walker enters camp as the favorite for ninth-inning duties, but Posey suggested there will be an open competition rather than a predetermined closer.

As spring training approaches, San Francisco’s roster may not be fully finalized, but Posey’s comments suggest a cautious confidence in the foundation already in place.
