Cleveland Guardians prospect Jaison Chourio has been extremely impressive so far in Winter League action.

The Cleveland Guardians have plenty of prospects in their organization with some star potential, but one player deserves much more attention: Jaison Chourio. The 20-year-old is currently showing why he has the skillset to be a star at the big-league level with what he’s doing during the Venezuelan Winter League.

Through 30 games with the Aguilas del Zulia, Chourio has a .308/.397/.430 slash line, including five doubles and two home runs. His OPS of .827 is currently ranked fifth on his team, and Chourio’s OBP ranks third. The switch-hitter has also done a tremendous job with his plate discipline, carrying a strikeout rate of 17 percent.

What makes all of these numbers even more impressive is that, on average, Chourio is eight years younger than his competitors, and he’s still been one of the best players in the league.

Sure, it would be nice to see Chourio have some more power in his swing, but it’s not shocking that he doesn’t yet. Remember, Chourio isn’t even 21 yet; some of that power will simply come with age and development.

Chouri has been considered one of the top prospects in Cleveland’s farm system ever since he signed with the organization. At the start of the 2025 season, he was ranked No. 5 by MLB Pipeline.

Even though the Guardians are desperate for outfield help, a 2026 debut for Chourio is very unlikely, if not impossible. The 20-year-old hasn’t played past High-A in his minor league career, and MLB Pipeline isn’t projecting him to play in his first big-league game until 2027 at the earliest.

It’s great to see Chourio swinging the bat well in some big moments. Overall, the outfielder had a rough 2025 minor league season. He only had a slash line of .235/.380/.284 with an OPS of .664. That said, he did have two separate stints on the injured list, and that was after having his 2024 season cut short due to wrist surgery.

Chourio has already gone through a lot in his minor league career, but a strong showing in the Winter League could be exactly what he needs to start 2026 on the right foot.
