The Cleveland Guardians added two new pitchers to the organization through the Rule 5 Draft.

The Cleveland Guardians consistently take every opportunity to add overlooked talent to the organization. They didn’t waste one of those opportunities during the 2025 MLB Rule 5 Draft during the Winter Meetings, adding two new pitchers to the organization.

The front office made one selection in both the MLB and MiLB phases of the draft, both of them being pitchers. Here’s a little bit about the new pitchers in Cleveland’s organization.

    RHP Peyton Pallette

The Guardians selected Peyton Pallette from the Chicago White Sox with their position in the MLB phase of the draft.

The 24-year-old right-handed pitcher looked like he could be a top-10 selection in the draft, but missed his junior season after undergoing elbow surgery. Pallette was eventually selected in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft, and has ranked as best as No. 14 on Chicago’s farm system.

During the 2025 season, Palette split his time between Double-A and Triple-A, registering a 4.06 ERA and a 1.119 WHIP in 52 appearances, all of which came out of the bullpen. Palette does have some experience pitching in high-leverage situations, recording eight saves in nine opportunities last season.

Now that Pallette is on Cleveland’s 40-man roster, he’s in line to be with the team on Opening Day. It’ll be interesting to see how the Guardians use him in spring training and if the right-hander ends up winning a spot in the bullpen.

The stats may not jump off the page as being impressive or elite, but clearly the organization sees something in him.

    RHP Jack Carey

During the minor league phase of the draft, the Guardians selected RHP Jack Carey out of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He was originally selected by the Pirates in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Duke University.

During Carey’s five-year minor league career, he’s appeared in 156 games and owns a 4.32 ERA and a 1.428 WHIP. The 26-year-old right-hander showed some signs of progress in 2025, posting a 3.63 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, and could be a solid depth piece for the Guardians in the minors.

Following the Rule 5 Draft, Cleveland’s 40-man roster is now at 39.
