The Cleveland Guardians may not be playing at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario right now, but some members of the organization are competing in winter leagues around the world.
Let’s check in on how some of Cleveland’s players are performing during the MLB offseason action.
Gabriel Arias is currently playing down in
The Guardians' shortstop has historically performed well in Winter League ball, and 2025 has been no exception. Arias currently has a slash line of .281/.366/.449, including eight extra base hits in 23 games.
While Arias has been hitting the ball hard in Venezuela, his biggest weakness has remained: strikeouts. Despite an .815 OPS, Arias has a strikeout rate of 30 percent.
Overall, though, the 25-year-old has been playing well for his team. Hopefully, Arias continues to play well and carries that momentum into spring training.

Angel Martinez will be fighting for a roster spot at the start of next season, but the switch-hitter has been struggling a lot so far in the Dominican Winter League.
In seven games with the Estrellas Orientales, Martinez has just three hits and three walks in 28 plate appearances (.136 batting average).
There’s still a long way before 2026 Opening Day, but Cleveland may not be encouraged about Martinez's current performance in the Winter League.
Both Arias and Martinez will be options for the Guardians next season, but let’s take a look at one player who will be in the mix a few years down the line and was just added to the 40-man roster: Angel Genao.
Even though he’s still just 21 years old, Genao has been playing like an established professional in his first 21 games. The infielder has a .338/.385/.380 slash line with a strikeout rate of just 14 percent.
Sure, some of the power numbers aren’t great (no home runs and three doubles), but Genao is still young and developing that pop.
The important thing is that the switch-hitter is making meaningful contact with the ball, which he is. These Winter League reps could do wonders for Genao's overall development.
