SIMI VALLEY, Calif., Dec. 1 (KNN) — An alleged suspect has been arrested for robbery in the smash-and-grab at a Macy’s store in Simi Valley on late Thursday evening.

The Simi Valley Police Department received several 911 calls just before 8 p.m. regarding a smash-and-grab robbery in progress at the Macy’s store in the 1400 block of Simi Town Center Way, according to the Simi Valley PD. The callers advised the police department’s dispatch that a male subject was smashing display cases with a hammer and removing property.

While officers were responding to the location, the suspect fled in a white passenger vehicle. The vehicle description was provided to additional officers who located the the vehicle a short time later traveling eastbound on the 118 Freeway, according to the SVPD in a press release of the incident.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect failed to stop, resulting an a short vehicle pursuit. The suspect exited the freeway and continued on surface streets where he ultimately abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a residential area, said the SVPD.

“Officers established a perimeter and with the assistance of LAPD Air Support and the Simi Valley Police Department K9 unit, ultimately located and arrested Lande Butler, a 44-year-old resident of Palmdale, California, without incident,” stated the release.

Approximately $6,000 in stolen merchandise was recovered which was later returned to Macy’s, reported the SVPD.

 Butler was booked at Ventura County Jail for robbery and evading a peace officer, according to the SVPD.
