Several weeks have gone by since the big changes to the points and earning systems. I was interested in "collecting" a bunch of posts to earn RP but find it is too time consuming and there is no real reward in it at this point for two main reasons I will discuss. Collecting and curating posts could be a real use case for RP if these two barriers are addressed because there is an intrinsic value in this activity and it would add value to the network.

Lack of Stability

I can curate a collection but somebody else can promote the post straight back out of my collection so from a curation point of view there is little motivation to curate a collection. Why would I waste my time? I read a comment from @Eyal somewhere in the past that talked about after an initial bidding period needing to get permission from the current owner to buy a post. This was when we talked about buying posts and they had some monetary gain.

As a collector I can live without monetary gain but I want some security/stability to my collection. A promotions freeze could still work. Perhaps after a week of open promotions the last promoter could opt-in to a promotion freeze for a year for some amount of RP. Promotions could still be possible but an interested party would need to ask permission from the current promoter. And the publisher could say whether they allow promoter freeze when they post their content. In this way curating a collection could become more attractive.

No home

The next barrier to curating a collection is that there is no way to categorize my curated collections. All the posts I promote are jumbled together sorted by date. Only the creator of the post can put the post in a channel. It would be great to have some sort of channel or categorization ability for curated collections too. Say for example, I have collected all the Releases posts, I could create my own "collection" called releases. People could know I collect these posts and visit my profile to see my collection. This may bring traffic to my profile to see my posts and gain me some advertising revenue on my own posts.

Perhaps, another interested collector could buy my collection giving me an actual monetary reward for all the hard work I put in to find and curate my collection. This could be official functionality or a private deal, either way the ability to transfer a collection in full would be handy too.

Collecting posts can be a rewarding experience even without monetary value but only if there is some security/stability to the curated collection and the ability to "house" the collection to allow other members find it.
