Boston eyes a power surge. Should Alex Bregman be out of reach, the Red Sox prepare an aggressive pursuit to land the Mets' star slugger.

The New York Mets are and will be involved in plenty of rumors with MLB free agency kicking off.

Of course, the biggest question mark is whether slugger Pete Alonso will sign a long-term deal and return to Queens in 2026 and beyond.

Alonso took a long time to sign with the Mets before the 2025 season, and it figures that both sides want to find out the future sooner rather than later.

Alonso will draw plenty of interest on the market, and rightfully so, and now the Boston Red Sox are reportedly considering Alonso if they aren't able to keep Alex Bregman.

MLB Network insider Jon Morosi mentioned Bregman is a "big priority" for Boston, but if not, he said it could be an "all-out pursuit" for Alonson.

“Either they bring back Bregman or they make an all-out pursuit for Pete Alonso.”

Alosno smashed 41 doubles, 38 homers, 126 RBI, 87 runs and 3.4 WAR in 162 games in 2025, so his offensive output is likely going to earn him a big paycheck this offseason, whether it is the Mets or not.

Morosi even called the Red Sox the biggest threat to the Mets.

"I believe the Red Sox are the strongest contender of anyone to take Pete Alonso away from the New York Mets," Morosi added. "I think Alonso to the Red Sox has some real legs if they don't bring back Alex Bregman."

To go even further, Bregman and Alonso have the same agent in Scott Boras, so it's going to be an interesting situation with these two sluggers.

For Boston, Alonso coming to town would likely mean he becomes the full-time designated hitter, which is not something the slugger has been opposed to despite playing first play for the Mets.

At this rate, Steve Cohen needs to pick up the phone and offer Alonso a massive deal to keep the Red Sox away from him.
