“Everyone sees the glory moments, but they don’t see what happens behind the scenes.” — Allyson Felix
Do you like watching behind-the-scenes footage of your favorite sports team? Me too.
I’m a sucker for Hard Knocks or any series that dives deep into a team’s inner world — the issues, the laughter, the antics, and the moments that build chemistry. It’s the part of sports we all want more of, but for so long, it felt off-limits.
Now, with YouTube and phone cameras capable of shooting an entire documentary, that kind of all-access content is finally within reach. And that’s great news for sports junkies like me who crave a glimpse of practices, meetings, and the way a fiery coach like Tom Izzo operates behind the curtain.
There are plenty of people willing to trade their free time for hours of raw, unfiltered practice footage. Enter YouTube’s newest viral hit: The Cut: A Season with MSU Men’s Basketball.
The show premieres Tuesday, November 4 at 6 p.m. EST, just one day after the Spartans’ first game of the season against Colgate. Expect plenty of footage from summer workouts, exhibition games, and preseason preparation leading into the opener.
The trailer opens with confetti falling and a banner reading “Big Ten Champions 2025.” Peaceful, almost romantic music swells in the background. As the net is cut down, a voice echoes: “Michigan State has won it, and they stand alone.”
Then — record scratch. Tom Izzo breaks the tone with a grin: “Still stuck with me, sorry.”
From there, the energy shifts. A montage of grueling practices, sweat, and hard work fills the screen.
Draymond Green chimes in:
“The culture of MSU Basketball is winning and family. Very simply put.”
We get flashes of smiles, fireworks, and Izzo bursting out of a bass drum like a Spartan Trojan horse. Inspirational quotes from players roll across the screen before Trey Fort closes it out with:
“Win. I want to be a part of that.”
The trailer ends with the logo for The Cut: A Season with MSU Men’s Basketball.
The trailer is exciting, heartfelt, and exactly what fans have been waiting for — a front-row seat to the daily grind inside one of college basketball’s most iconic programs.
Izzo, one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history, has never been afraid to show his emotion. Some call it passion; others call it intensity. The Cut could give fans a closer look at how that emotion shapes his players and the culture he’s built in East Lansing.
Expect to see personalities like Cohen Carr, Jaxon Kohler, Jeremy Fears Jr., and more in a way you haven’t before — up close, candid, and human.
As a longtime Spartan fan, I’m hyped for this series. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia, competition, and authenticity.
Catch Michigan State’s season opener on Monday, then tune in for The Cut premiere Tuesday at 6 p.m. on YouTube.
If the trailer’s any indication, this might just be must-watch viewing for college basketball fans everywhere.
