Schrauth leaves Notre Dame's dominant offensive line for the NFL, trading another season for pro potential. His health and pass-blocking prowess will be key.

Another Notre Dame starting offensive lineman has declared for the NFL Draft, with starting guard Billy Schrauth announcing those plans today. Schrauth had another season of eligibility returning, but instead of going for one more season at Notre Dame - or possibly even transferring - Schrauth will take his chances in the NFL.

Schrauth has been a productive player for the Notre Dame offensive line the last two seasons, starting 19 games at either right guard or left guard. Be began the 2024 season playing on the right side but went down with an injury in the third game of the season, a 66-7 win over Purdue. When he returned to the lineup against Navy, Schrauth was shifted to left guard, where he started the next 16 straight games.

Schrauth was playing outstanding football in 2025 before his season ended with a knee injury in the 34-24 win over USC. He helped fuel a ground game that went for 306 yards in that victory over the Trojans, which shot the Irish up the rankings. Despite playing just seven games this season, the American Football Coaches Association named Schrauth a second-team All-American.

Schrauth was an elite pass blocker for the Irish in 2025, giving up just two pressures in the seven games he played, according to Pro Football Focus. Neither of those pressures resulted in hits or sacks on the quarterback. That built on a strong pass blocking performance in 2024, when Schrauth gave up just eight pressures in 12 games, including just one sack. Over the last two seasons, Schrauth allowed just 10 total pressures and one sack on the quarterback.

The Wisconsin native also showed improvement in the run game. In his first 15 starts, Schrauth was flashy as a run blocker, showing moments of outstanding play but struggling with consistency. As a senior, however, he became a more steady all-around performer and his ability to consistently carry out his run blocking assignments at a high level allowed him to be a highly effective run blocker week after week. He combined with left tackle Anthonie Knapp to give the Irish a strong left side of the line.

Schrauth has started 22 games for Notre Dame and the Irish run game has flourished in those starts. Notre Dame has averaged 205.8 yards per game and 5.6 yards per carry in games where Schrauth was a starter at guard. He's started at both right guard and left guard during his career, but all of his starts in 2025 were on the left side.

The big question for him with NFL teams will likely be his health. Schrauth missed four games with a lower body injury in 2024 and then missed the final five games of the 2025 season with a knee injury. In his four seasons at Notre Dame he dealt with a few different injuries and he missed a total of nine games over the last two seasons because of injuries.
