Ohio State WR Carnell Tate Predicted to Land With New York Giants

Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate shouldn't have to wait long to hear his name on draft night.

Tate recorded 51 catches for 875 yards and nine touchdowns on the Buckeyes, helping the program make it to the College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

ESPN's Mel Kiper is projecting Tate to be a top-five draft pick. Most players drafted that early go to teams with bad situations.

However, Tate might have luck in store for him in his rookie season.

Kiper thinks the New York Giants will take Tate with the No. 5 pick. Tate would be an intriguing addition to an offense that already boasts a star receiver in Malik Nabers, and those two could cause matchup nightmares for opposing defenses.

"The Giants have a lot of needs, but similar to Tennessee, they have a second-year quarterback looking for help," Kiper wrote. "Yes, wide receiver Malik Nabers (knee) and running back Cam Skattebo (ankle/leg) will be back on the field, but wideout Wan'Dale Robinson is a free agent, and Nabers can't be the target on all of Jaxson Dart's throws.

"Taking a first-round wide receiver wouldn't be new to recently hired coach John Harbaugh; in Baltimore, he used four Day 1 picks starting in 2015 on the position (Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, Hollywood Brown and Breshad Perriman)."

The Giants went all-in for former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. With Tate, New York's offense could be a threat to go along with a defense that should improve in 2026 under Harbaugh.

Harbaugh took the job with the Giants in part because he believes Dart can be an elite passer in the league.

"It starts with the quarterback for sure," Harbaugh said, via the Giants' website. "You build your team around your quarterback. You build your team around your players and what they do well. I like the way (Dart) plays.

"I like his talent, skill set, all the things he's accomplished, but more than that, I like who he is and what he's about. To me, he's about football. This young guy loves football. He wants to talk football all the time and that's kind of what I like doing too."

Tate would certainly help accelerate Dart's development.

If Tate goes at No. 5, he'd join Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka as former Buckeyes to go in the first round.

Those players are making big impacts on their respective teams.
