The Green Bay Packers suffered a ton of injuries in their loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. While most of the attention will go to Micah Parsons suffering a torn ACL, and rightfully so, Green Bay also lost wide receiver Christian Watson.
Watson went down with a chest/shoulder injury on a pass downfield that was intercepted by Patrick Surtain. However, unlike Parsons, the Packers received positive injury news on Watson, as he avoided a long-term injury and may even play on Saturday against the Chicago Bears.
Having Watson in the lineup against Chicago would be a major boost for the Packers' offense. Quarterback Jordan Love and the offense struggled against the Broncos following Watson's exit.
In the Packers' matchup against the Bears in Week 14, Watson had a great game, hauling in four receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Love was able to find Watson in key situations and made plays downfield for the Packers. When Watson is on the field, teams have to respect him as a deep threat, which opens up the other elements of the offense.
The 26-year-old wide receiver has been extremely impactful for Green Bay's offense since returning from his torn ACL that he suffered in Week 18 of the 2024 season.
Watson has been Love's top target, as he's hauled in 28 receptions for 481 yards and five touchdowns.
Watson has helped Love play efficient football this season, as he's completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 3,304 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
However, with Watson out, Green Bay's offense could look completely different. If he is unable to play against the Bears, the Packers will need their receivers on the outside in Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Matthew Golden to step up.
Golden is the logical choice for Green Bay, as he is a deep threat like Watson. Green Bay took Golden in the first round of the draft, and he has shown flashes throughout the season.
Against the Broncos, he had three receptions for 55 yards. On the season, the 22-year-old wideout has 27 receptions for 341 yards. His impact could be major against Chicago.
While the Packers may or may not have Watson against the Bears, it is great news that he avoided a long-term injury.
