The Green Bay Packers' injuries are continuing to pile up, as running back Josh Jacobs will not return against the New York Giants. Jacobs exited in the second quarter with a knee injury.
This is a major blow to the Packers' offense, as Jacobs is one of their top weapons. He was playing at a high level early, rushing for 40 yards on seven attempts.
Jacobs has been productive this season despite the struggles of the offensive line. He has rushed for 608 yards and 11 touchdowns on 162 attempts. Jacobs has also hauled in 28 receptions for 237 yards.
Green Bay has faced many injuries throughout the game, including Jordan Love, who exited with a left shoulder injury, but was able to return to the game.
With Jacobs out of the game, Green Bay turns to Emmanuel Wilson as their primary running back. Wilson has rushed for 22 yards and a touchdown on six attempts thus far in the game.
On the season, Wilson has rushed for 180 yards on 32 attempts.
The Packers will need to rely more on the passing game throughout the game. Green Bay's offense has been inconsistent over the last few weeks, and it needs to be corrected.
Head coach Matt LaFleur has faced criticism about his playcalling, and some have called for him to give up playcalling duties. LaFleur will continue to call plays for Green Bay, but it will be very challenging in the second half of the game without Jacobs.
It will likely hinge on Love and the passing game down the stretch against New York. Love has completed 9 of 17 passes for 102 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions thus far.
The Packers have Super Bowl aspirations, but have struggled with back-to-back losses. While the numerous injuries to the roster, such as Elgton Jenkins, Lukas Van Ness, Tucker Kraft, Nate Hobbs, and others, have played a factor, the struggles on offense and special teams have been the catalyst.
Green Bay will look to hold on to a win over the Giants and hope that the injury to Jacobs isn't long-term.
