Reported End Game for Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst Revealed cover image

The Green Bay Packers are reportedly nearing a resolution in contract talks with both general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur.

It's ceratinly been a long week for the Green Bay Packers.

Last Saturday, they blew a 21-3 lead to their biggest rival, the Chicago Bears, in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs.

That was a gut punch of epic proportions, but then almost immediately, the offseason circus began.

Both General Manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur are heading into the final years of their contracts with the Packers and we know new team president Ed Policy doesn't like the idea of a "lame duck" season.

Not much has come out about Gutekunst since the loss, but with LaFleur, it has been a roller coaster, to say the least.

Everything has seemingly been on the table. From what was supposed to be a quick conversation on Monday about an extension to LaFleur, being fired, or even traded.

It has been a wild week.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, though, there is a resolution in sight.

"The Green Bay Packers are working to bring back coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst, each of whom is headed into the final year of his current deal, and the expectation is that there will be contract extensions for both, league sources told ESPN," Schefter wrote on Saturday morning.

Per Schefter, Policy, LaFleur and Gutekunst were all "spotted together" on Thursday night at a 5-star hotel in Kohler, Wisconsin called the American Club.

"They discussed the future, and all are working to get something done to keep the trio intact," Schefter wrote.

Talks will continue over the weekend, but the expectation is that extensions will be hammered out sooner rather than later.

Gutekunst has been with the Packers since 1999, starting as a scout. He's been the general manager since 2018, and the Packers have gone 85-55-2 under his watch.

LaFleur has been the head coach in Green Bay since 2019, and the Packers have gone 76-40-1 in regular season games with him at the helm. He's taken Green Bay to the playoffs in six out of his seven seasons. The problem? He's now 3-6 in the playoffs after the terrible loss to the Bears.
