Seventeen-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye achieved a childhood dream with his Parc des Princes debut goal in PSG's dominant 5-0 victory over Rennes.
Paris Saint-Germain beat Stade Rennais in Saturday's Ligue 1 match. Rennes kicked off and immediately played forward.
Paris recovered, but Joao Neves missed his pass, and Przemyslaw Frankowski shot just over the bar (1st minute). PSG responded with a good attack from Bradley Barcola on the right, which was finally cleared (3rd minute).
On a long ball, Marquinhos slightly misplayed his clearance, but goalkeeper Matyev Safonov came out very well to intervene (4th minute). A huge breakthrough from Warren Zaire-Emery allowed Paris to shoot, but Vitinha missed the target (9th minute).
After this 5-0 win over Rennes, in which Ibrahim Mbaye scored his first goal at the Parc des Princes, the 17-year-old spoke to Ligue 1+ about the major moment.
For the last Ligue 1 home match before the break, did you want to put on a show for the spectators?
"Yes, of course. We did everything to deliver. Now, we must continue at this level and not stop there."
A reaction that was also expected after relinquishing the top spot.
"(He did not quite understand the question and spoke about his goal) Since I was waiting for that moment... It happened today. I hope it will be a long series."
How does it feel to score your first goal at 17?
"At 17 years old at the Parc des Princes, it's a childhood dream, even if I'm still a child. There's not much to say, it's incredible, and I hope it continues."
PSG Remained Leader in Ligue 1 After Defeating Rennes
Rennes was well in the match, and Marquinhos had to clear two crosses in a row (10th minute). PSG's play was static, and Vitinha forced a long pass that went astray (15th minute). Kvara managed an excellent run down the left wing and found Barcola in front of the box; he was alone but controlled before shooting and was blocked (19th minute). Paris accelerated. Lee was found on the right. He delivered a strong cross in front of the goal, and Mayulu came very close to finishing (23rd minute).
Paris recovered the ball very deep and countered. Kvaratskhelia was served on the left, dribbled past a good part of the defense, and shot powerfully from 15 meters (1-0, 29th minute).
Later in the match, Barcola worked tremendously on the right, then passed to Neves in the box, who pulled back a cross for Mayulu to finish from 6 meters (2-0, 39th minute).
PSG then had the match well in hand. High pressing paid off again: Barcola was found in front of the box, he held up play, then served Lee Kang-in on the left, who shot hard but over the bar (43rd minute). PSG accelerated once more. Barcola found Lee in a very good position on the left; the South Korean shot hard but missed the top corner (45+1 minute). At halftime, Paris was ahead despite a strong showing from Rennes.
Rennes tried to get back into the match, and Embolo tried his luck from distance, sending his shot wide (54th minute). Al Tamari escaped down the left, but Zaire-Emery tracked him and blocked his cross (55th minute). Rennes was doing better, but PSG had a big chance for 3-0 on a counterattack.
PSG scored the third goal. Barcola pressed very well and recovered the ball, served Mayulu at the 6-meter mark, who laid it off to Kvara in a pulled-back position. The Georgian sent a missile under the bar (3-0, 67th minute).
PSG continued to push despite two changes. Barcola fought to recover a ball, drove into the box, and shot hard, but Samba was positioned well to save (72nd minute). Rennes suffered another blow: Ramos got ahead of Jacquet, who fouled him, resulting in a second yellow card and a sending off for Jacquet (73rd minute).
The substitutions inevitably slowed the pace of the match, but Paris continued to push. Corners accumulated without being particularly dangerous (87th minute). PSG scored a fourth superb goal: Mbaye was served wide on the left, cut inside and unleashed a terrific shot into the opposite side netting (4-0, 87th minute).
Immediately after, Mbaye missed a double. A perfect pass from Barcola, which Ramos let through, found Mbaye, but a Rennes player cleared the shot off the line (90th minute). PSG finally scored a fifth goal through Ramos, who beat Samba with a left-footed shot from 20 meters (5-0, 90+1 minute).
