I completely understand if the Philadelphia Phillies don't want to give Ranger Suarez all the money he's looking for, which would likely mean the left-hander won't be on the roster next season.
If we lived in a perfect world and I could have everything I wanted, I'd say the Phillies should give him all the money he wants, but it might also be unrealistic to suggest that.
Now, there could be many problems with that, and it might not even be due to the simple fact that the Phillies are losing one of the better starters in their rotation.
It’d be due to the fact that he could join another team in the National League and have a major impact on what the Phillies have to deal with moving forward.
When examining how that might happen, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently predicted that he'd sign a six-year deal with the New York Mets, which is absolutely the last thing the Phillies want to deal with regarding Suarez.
“Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ranger Suárez was the No. 2 free agent on Reuter's board, and there's a good reason for that. The 30-year-old is a quality starter who is set to join a free-agent class lacking a top-tier pitcher. This creates real problems for the Phillies. They have a few notable names headed to market, and they're expected to rebuild after a second straight exit in the NLDS...
“Philly may find it hard to justify giving Suárez the sort of deal he's likely to command in this year's market. It would be a lot easier to justify for the rival New York Mets, who missed the postseason in 2025 and who need to upgrade their rotation. Prediction: Suárez signs a six-year deal with the Mets,” he wrote.
The Mets are in the market for a starter, and one could even argue that the team needs an ace-caliber arm.
I wouldn't say that Suarez would be an ace by any means, but he has the potential to be when he's at his best.
Seeing him in New York wouldn't be ideal for many reasons, perhaps the worst scenario of the offseason, depending on what happens with Kyle Schwarber.
