Earlier this winter, the Texas Rangers signed veteran catcher Danny Jansen to a two-year contract.
Jansen will come into the Rangers catching room with Kyle Higashioka, and the pair will split time behind the plate this season.
Rangers POBO Chris Young acknowledges that Jansen is what the Rangers were looking for while noting the strength of the duo.
“Danny is the perfect fit,” Young said. “A leader who brings a winning personality. He’ll complement Kyle Higashioka, and the two of them behind the plate will make a great tandem.
Last season was a tale of two halves for Jansen, who spent the year with both the Blue Jays and the Brewers.
North of the border, Jansen struggled, hitting just .204 with 11 home runs and 29 RBI in 73 games.
Following the trade to Milwaukee, Jansen saw his offensive production increase despite playing in just 25 games.
Jansen hit .254 with three home runs and seven RBI for the first-place Brew Crew.
2026 will no doubt bring some pressure to Jansen, who will be coming in following the DFA of long-time Rangers catcher and fan favorite Jonah Heim.
