The 33-year-old right-handed slugger was one of the Royals’ targets last offseason before he re-signed with the Dodgers on a three-year, $66 million deal. Hernandez’s name has resurfaced after a down year in the 2025 MLB season, where he struggled defensively with a Fielding Run Value of -9, according to Statcast’s Baseball Savant.
At the plate, he posted a .247 batting average, a .284 on-base percentage, a .738 OPS, 25 home runs and 89 RBIs across 134 games. Despite those struggles, Hernandez represents high-upside potential for Kansas City. He is a proven outfield bat with a track record of production, highlighted by two All-Star selections. His power profile would immediately deepen the Royals’ lineup, giving Witt and the rest of the offense more protection.
Beyond his regular-season numbers, Hernandez brings valuable postseason experience, having won two World Series titles during his 10-year career. That championship pedigree could be invaluable for a Royals team eager to return to October and make a deeper run. For Kansas City, the fit is clear.
Hernandez’s bat would provide power in the middle of the order, while his veteran presence could help guide a young roster still learning how to win consistently.
