Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore officially ruled out running back Alvin Kamara for the team’s crucial Week 15 matchup against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday. The announcement came Friday, confirming Kamara will miss his third consecutive game as he continues to recover from a knee/ankle injury.
The news was expected, as the veteran running back did not participate in practice throughout the week. Kamara's continued absence removes one of the Saints' top offensive weapons for this NFC South divisional clash.
Devin Neal To Step Up
With Kamara sidelined, the Saints’ backfield duties will once again fall primarily to rookie running back Devin Neal. The sixth-round pick from the 2025 NFL Draft has capably handled the workload in Kamara’s previous two absences, including a standout performance in New Orleans' upset victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week.
"Alvin will be out with the knee/ankle and [Offensive Tackle] Asim Richards will be out with the ankle," Moore stated during his Friday press conference, officially providing the team's final injury update. "Justin Reid will be questionable with the knee. Everyone else is good to go."
Neal, who has shown promise in his limited time as the lead back, totaled 70 rushing yards on 19 carries and scored his first career NFL touchdown against the Buccaneers. His ability to produce against a formidable Tampa Bay defense gives the Saints confidence heading into the game against the Panthers.
