Legendary Sam Kerr announces her Chelsea departure after more than 6 years and multiple trophies, leaving as the club's second all-time leading scorer.
This Thursday, we woke up to the news that footballer Sam Kerr announced her departure from Chelsea after more than 6 1/2 years at the institution. The Australian arrived at the team and immediately became a key player in a dominant stage for Chelsea in English football. She will say goodbye in the game against Manchester United with 157 games dressed in blue, being in the top 4 of players with the most appearances.
The player says goodbye as the club's second all-time leading scorer, with 115 goals in all competitions, just one behind the record set by the legendary Fran Kirby.
During her farewell video, the player said, "When I think about my career at Chelsea and that I will play for the last time against Manchester United this Saturday, I only feel happiness. I am happy to have lived this experience and grateful for my six years at the club and for all the titles we won."
Recalling a bit about her record, Kerr won five Women's Super Leagues, three FA Cups, and three League Cups, thus showing the aforementioned dominance of Chelsea in the league.
"Unfortunately, this time it is real; I wanted you to know it from me, but this Saturday will be my last match with Chelsea. I don't want it to be a sad conversation; let it be a memory of all the good times we have shared. I have the best memories, and I hope that on Saturday, we create one more incredible one. I wanted you to know it from me: I am leaving the club, but there is only one match left," Kerr concluded.
The question now will be who can fill the big hole that Kerr will leave in Chelsea's attack. Mayra Ramirez is a great player, but she is still recovering from her injury; Lauren James is very good in attack, but is more commonly used as a left winger.
So the most natural successor would be Sandy Baltimore, the young Frenchwoman who has been at the institution for a couple of years, coming from Paris Saint-Germain, but rumors about the possible arrival of Khadija Shaw will likely gain more strength.
