Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers addresses team's record situation after loss to the San Antonio Spurs

While Giannis Antetokounmpo entered the day listed as probable for Thursday night's contest against the San Antonio Spurs, the Milwaukee Bucks star was able to suit up despite the hold up, and so was Kyle Kuzma, who entered the day with a questionable injury status due to an illness.

Even with the Bucks having a fully-healthy starting lineup and key members of their bench available, it wasn't enough for them to take down the Spurs, who defended home court with a 119-101 victory. A game that was pretty much decided at the end of the fourth quarter, Milwaukee moves to 17-24 on the season.

Doc Rivers Addresses Record Situation

With their 24th loss on the year, the Bucks end Thursday's NBA slate as the 11th seed still in the Eastern Conference, and sit two games back of the Atlanta Hawks for the final spot in the play-in tournament. There's still plenty of basketball left, and head coach Doc Rivers addressed that after the game when asked about the record.

"I think people outside look at that more than the players...Guys, we have half the year left. I don't think people are sitting there looking at the record right now. I think they're trying to get right. So, that's where it goes," Rivers said.

While the circumstances and roster was much different last season, the Bucks had the exact opposite record through 41 games last year at 24-17. Giannis also wasn't battling nearly as many injuries, but it's clear there's been a step decline from last season.

"Obviously, you look at it. I don't even know what we're out, two games, one game from the play-in. Like, it's a whole half a season left. I don't see that at all with us," he added.

Back on injuries, Bobby Portis and Ryan Rollins are the only two players who haven't missed a game for the Bucks, while Giannis and Kevin Porter Jr. have both played in 27 games or less so far this season.

While that needs to be factored in, that doesn't excuse them for losses to the Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards (twice), and Brooklyn Nets, all teams with bottom five records in the NBA as of Thursday.

What Can Milwaukee Do?

The Bucks can do one of three things: stay put and keep trying with what they have, make a trade to hope they can fix the roster, or change up the coaching staff and part ways with Doc Rivers.

Given the Bucks fired Adrian Griffin when he had the team at 30-13, parting ways with Rivers is certainly something that isn't out of the picture. Even though Rivers will go down as a Hall of Fame coach, that doesn't mean he fits in Milwaukee long term.

Luckily, losing games isn't all that bad now, as the Atlanta Hawks hold the rights to swap with the more favorable of Milwaukee and New Orleans' 2026 first-round pick, both of which could end up in the draft lottery. However, when you have a star like Giannis, that isn't something you should be looking forward to.
