The noise around the Ohio State Buckeyes draft prospects is going to get very, very loud over the course of the next couple of weeks.
Each of Ohio State's top-four prospects has been rumored to be top-15 picks. The pre-draft process began with Arvell Reese being the first Buckeye off the board with pick No. 2 to the New York Jets. He and Carnell Tate could buy an apartment together because therumor is that the New York Giants will select him with No. 5.
Initially, there was a short wait to pick No. 12 when Caleb Downs came off the board, and then Sonny Styles going at pick No. 15 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Then, as we approached the NFL Combine and draft experts really started getting into the tape, the gaps started to close.
First, Downs crept into the top-10 and even got as high as pick No. 2. Styles was right on his tail as I saw him as high as No. 9 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, after what happened at the combine on Thursday, the Buckeyes are just going to continue to climb the board. The crazy part is that if Downs tests well on Friday, there is a real world where the Buckeyes make history in late April.
Quarterback Fernando Mendoza is likely going to be the No. 1 overall pick, and then would it be crazy if the Buckeyes went at 2, 3, 4, and 5? I don't think so.
If they do, they will join only one university to ever have that happen. Yes, you guessed it, the UConn Huskies are the only school to experience this, and it was in the 2002 WNBA Draft.
WNBA legends Sue Bird, Swin Cash, Asjha Jones, and Tamika Williams were four of the first six picks in the draft.
Sue Bird jumps into the arms of Diana Taurasi while Tamika Williams embraces the pair as UConn captures the 2002 national championship, the first of three consecutive titles the Huskies captured.A feat like this has never been accomplished in the NFL and rightfully so. No one typically amasses this type of talent on one team.
What the Ohio State Buckeyes had in 2025 was nothing short of spectacular. It is shocking that they didn't land the National Championship, but that is a song for another time.
Ohio State continues to prove that they are the best talent developer in America, and if they get five in the first round, it would be anaccomplishment. If they get four in the first five picks, it would be downright historic.
